This week, I take a look back at the journey over the past 12 years in film.
The films are of their age and talk about the Growing Talent programme as it was then – not how it evolved to its end point.
But what startled me on playing the films is the issues the participants talk about remain relevant today.

Today I revisited Anthony’s story.
Inspiring insight into how family relationships and grief can collide to devastate individuals and families. Unemployment only amplifies this.
A year out in China gave Anthony the opportunity to process the grief of his dad’s death.
But returning to the UK, a feeling of loss in not being able to contribute to the family household took hold. Luckily, he overcame his self-stigma about going to the Jobçentre to sign on. Kam, his work coach at the time, said ‘I’m not going to learn your name – you won’t be here long enough’ two days later Anthony had agreed to give Growing Talent a go.
“I need to complete one target before I can move to the next. This scheme has given me that realisation.” Anthony.
