Beaware! Before you dismiss something or someone…..

This weekend, I was in danger of dismissing what turned out to be a great event.

A few weeks ago, we decided, decluttering was the order of the day. I was tripping over stuff more than I was using it!

Weekends have been spent sorting, sifting into donate, sell, give away piles – more tripping over stuff! – ready to take some bits to a boot sale.

The two words that have long invoked a sense of dread in my mind.

From the time my mum loved nothing more than inviting me to one of her greatest pleasures – a boot sale – to find the ‘little gems’ she was sure would one day be worth a fortune – watching too much antiques roadshow! She never did find that elusive gem. I never saw boot sales as anything other than glorified outdoor jumble sales!

However, yesterday, we took a punt and visited a farm boot sale armed with dvds to sell. Not only did we make £30 profit but as you can see, the view was energising – horses in one field and goats in another. The sun shone and people smiled whilst out looking for their own elusive ‘gems’.

Had I followed my instinct and canceled the boot sale, I would never have spent such a mindful three hours, chatting to people, the farm team and getting lost in the peace of nature.

How often do we dismiss things or people in our lives and at work?

We assume the experience, or someone’s views and ideas will be negative.

Isn’t it better to jump into the experience and know for sure?

No, I am not a boot sale convert now. But I wouldn’t dismiss doing another one either!

What are you thinking about dismissing recently based on your thoughts?
