How’s your mind muscle?

October 10 is the annual World Mental Health Day.

Wouldn’t it be great if we didn’t need this? If we were all empowered to speak about our emotions from a young age so we never self-stigmatised?

The movement to smash stigma – self and society’s – is growing, maybe not fast enough, but it is growing – in the UK at least.

Businesses are becoming increasingly aware of how important it is to ensure their workplaces are inclusive for mind health as well as physical health.

One University in Wales was the first to gain ISO45003 – the International Standards for psychological safety in the workplace.

Schools are starting to bring in lessons on emotions and mind health for younger children.

Many corporates are rolling out various products to give tools to their staff at all levels for building their own resilience and positive mental health which in turn builds brand reputation and profitability whilst reducing staff churn. Of course, staff have to use said tools.

Focussing on investing in training that is accredited and delivers not only the tools to build mind muscle but how to implement them is pivotal.

@I-act Managing and Promoting Positive Mental Health and Wellbeing delivers over fifty tools which can be used on self and others which is by we deliver this critical lifelong tool to all @Growing-Talent participants.

Be kind to yourself first. Build in pockets of fun during the day which distracts the mind from its potentially overpowering thoughts and builds the mind muscle to deal with negative thoughts before they hit.

Let’s make sure we are mindful of mental health – positive and negative – in ourselves and those around us every day, not just World Mental Health Day.
